Welcome to our virtual options evening for year 9. Choosing options is an exciting time for pupils. We hope that the resources on this page will give pupils and parents/carers a good overview of the process and all the information needed to make well-informed choices.
Virtual assembly for year 9 pupils
You can watch Mr Painton’s virtual assembly to year 9 pupils below. This gives pupils an overview of the options process along with some advice on making good choices.
Introduction for parents / carers
You can watch Mr Painton’s video presentation below. This will give you an overview of the options process. It is primarily aimed at parents / carers but pupils may also find it helpful to watch.
The latest year 9 options booklet can be downloaded here. Please do read this document as it contains lots of important information on the key stage 4 curriculum and the options process. It also includes a summary of all the courses on offer – what pupils are taught, how they are assessed, the enrichment opportunities available and information on further study and careers.
Some subjects have put together a video to provide some additional information. You can view these via this link.
Some pupils will follow an adapted curriculum pathway during years 10 and 11. This may include access to some courses from our alternative courses booklet here. Parents/carers of pupils affected by this will be contacted directly by the learning support term.
Virtual bright day
On Thursday 28th January, pupils in year 9 will take part in a virtual bright day. This will give pupils a chance to focus on their future study and career options. Many of the resources for the day will be accessed via Unifrog so it is important that pupils can log in to this platform (see below). Full information will be provided to pupils via Satchel One but an overview for parents is available here.
Virtual options evening – for asking questions
On the evening of Thursday 28th January, parents/carers and pupils are able to book video appointments with teachers from different subject areas to ask about those subjects. Please note that the teachers available will all be subject specialists but will not necessarily be a pupil’s current teacher. The focus of the evening is to ask questions about the courses not about individual pupils’ progress in school. Members of the leadership team will also be available for more general questions and Katherine, our careers advisor, will be available for anyone who wants to discuss future study or careers. The evening will run via School Cloud (the same system used for our year 9 progress evening before Christmas). Appointments will open on 20th January and close on 27th January. More details will be sent directly to parents/carers.
Unifrog is a progression and careers platform that we use extensively across the school – right from year 7 through to the Sixth Form. Pupils will need to use it on the virtual bright day. Parents are also able to access resources on Unifrog. You can access it here.
An introduction for parents is available here.
A reminder for pupils on how to log in is here.
The options form
Options forms are accessed and submitted via EduLink One. There is more information in the options booklet and in the videos above. The form will be available from 29th January (after the virtual bright day and virtual options evening). It should be submitted by Monday 22nd February.
