Vision, Values and Ethos
Everyone at Rushcliffe School will be given the chance to shine brightly.
Rushcliffe School really is a successful, vibrant and friendly place for pupils and staff alike. We have a simple mission statement – ‘everyone will be given the chance to shine brightly’ – and this underpins everything we do at the school. We seek out any opportunity to showcase the talents and abilities of our pupils: giving everyone the chance to shine brightly means that happiness and success are much more likely to follow.
To complement our mission statement, everyone at Rushcliffe has agreed these five core values:
- We try our best
- We support each other
- We keep each other informed
- We listen to different opinions
- We are proud to be part of the school
A great many of our pupils achieve high academic standards and we ensure they are given the chance to stretch themselves and aim for outstanding success. For many years Rushcliffe has been one of the highest achieving schools in the region at GCSE and a high percentage of Rushcliffe Sixth Form students move on to study at the most prestigious universities. We are also very proud of the work of our dedicated team working with pupils who have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities; they ensure that pupils of all abilities and needs achieve well and develop the skills they need for fulfilled and successful lives.
There is so much more to Rushcliffe than outstanding examination success. We believe that for a young person to truly shine brightly they should be encouraged to get involved in the Arts, to enjoy and perhaps excel at sport, to raise money for charity, to visit other countries, to produce magazines, to read widely and become well rounded, thoughtful and happy individuals: Rushcliffe is an experience that will equip pupils for life.
Ensuring the best classroom experience is extremely important and teachers are expected to set high standards for themselves and their classes. Challenging lessons delivered by passionate teachers are the norm at Rushcliffe, and rigorous processes ensure these standards are met by all our teaching staff. There is also, of course, a brilliant team of support staff who ensure that the school runs smoothly and that our pupils are healthy, safe and well supported in and out of lessons.
We are very proud of the way we maintain strong links with homes. Regular newsletters, e-mails, texts and progress reviews ensure parents and carers know what is going on in their child’s life at school and a termly parent forum provides opportunity for the dialogue with parents. Parents can log in to the Parent Portal at any time to access live information such as their child’s attendance, behaviour and achievement, and the excellent website keeps parents informed about events at the school.
Rushcliffe is a very popular school. We are oversubscribed, but if a child lives in our catchment and/or attends a local primary school then we will do our best to find them a place in our school. Because of our passionate belief that ‘everyone will be given the chance to shine brightly’ we do not test anyone before offering a place.
