Rushcliffe does 'Question Time'
On Thursday 15th March Rushcliffe Sixth Form hosted our very own Question Time event, organised by y13 students Ben Watts and Harry Gardener. It was a great opportunity for sixth form students to engage in debate, express their political opinions and learn more about the policies of the UK’s main political parties.
The guest panel included Cllr Kay Cutts MBE (the Leader of Nottinghamshire County Council), Cllr Rod Jones (Lib Dem Councillor for Musters Ward in West Bridgford, Vice – chair of the local party), Umaar Kazmi (Communications Officer for Chris Williamson and Labour Member of Parliament for Derby North) and Allan Hale (Green party press officer) and we are grateful to them all for giving their time and speaking so passionately. A contrasting range of opinions did not take long to emerge and the debate was extremely informative with all the speakers contributing fully to the questions asked by sixth form students and some excellent responses from the floor.
Many of the sixth form students are of voting age with others fast approaching this milestone and Question Time provided an extremely interesting afternoon that allowed us to mature our opinions and reflect on some of the key issues facing British society.
“The talking points were relevant to today and the issue of tuition fees particularly spiked my interest.” Charlie Bell Y13 Student
“… it was incredibly interesting and made me think more of politics.” Carla Jones Y12 Student
“I found the experience really eye opening and made me realise that our vote really matters.” Stephen Ross Y13 Student
